De-Performance

I would describe myself as a performer, with my biggest performance of all being my gendered expression. Despite my deep qualms with this role, it is an act that I lovingly adorn every single day. De-Performance presents the idea of “de-performance”- the act of stripping away the female performance that I put on for the strangers and men in my life. The video performance piece documents and puts in reverse the ritual of getting into my feminine costume, producing a glitch-filled and uncanny visual.
