How I Got Here
One of the most intimate ways in which we all interact with photographs is with the family photo. It challenges the relationship between a person’s past and present as they view a former self or time period. We take photos to preserve the memory of a time and in extension, we create a moment separate from the time itself that is tied only to the photograph. How I Got Here, a piece created in collaboration with Sunday Holland explores not only the relationships between individuals and their old memorabilia but also the exact sequence of events that brought us, the artists, together as children and the events that led each of us to this moment, now. Using videos inspired by archived family photos and interviews with our parents, we created a piece that is five times removed from the originally captured moment. The music is pulled from archives of our childhood garage band creations.
